If you haven’t heard, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has purchased the haul trucks segment of Terex. What does that mean for you? Probably not much, as the aptly renamed Terex Trucks will continue to operate as an independent business.

The purchase, which was finalized at the beginning of June, adds rigid haulers to Volvo CE’s product line, since Terex Trucks manufactures both rigid and articulated haulers. Volvo CE has been actively looking for quite some time to expand their line with rigid haulers, and company reports they are particularly happy they can now offer customers the highly-respected Terex name.

TerexTrucks_logo_mainThat Terex Trucks name remains firmly in place, according to officials of both companies, with assurances from Terex Trucks that the company will continue to produce its entire range of products and support the existing field population with parts and service.

Terex Trucks managing director Paul Douglas describes the change as “business as usual – but with added muscle.” And Andrew Knight, Volvo CE’s VP for Strategy and Business Development, says his company is committed to growing Terex Trucks and plans to provide “strong support” in the way of investment and other resources to make that happen. “It’s a good strategic fit,” he believes, a symbiotic relationship that gives both companies the best of both worlds.

Meanwhile, for Terex Trucks, it’s, well, business as usual.

Tier 4 Final articulated haulers hit the market.

As of last month, you can purchase Terex Trucks articulated haulers that meet the latest Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The 30-ton Terex TA300 was introduced in July, with the 40-ton Terex TA400 set to debut this month. Powerful Scania engines reduce emissions but still provide top performance and reliability for Terex-tough working conditions.

The engines are fuel efficient and don’t need a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system. Instead, the system uses the latest technologies available for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas regeneration (EGR), in combination with a diesel oxidization catalyst (DOC), to achieve greater efficiencies required by Tier 4 Final. The system also includes a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), which works to increase pressure and ensure optimum flow.

These latest Terex Trucks articulated haulers also have a new CAN controlled engine exhaust brake that boost reaction and performance of exhaust brake retardation as well as efficiency now required of Tier 4 Final after-treatment. This system is safer, because you get better operator control and braking, especially when headed downhill.
