The Quality and Value of A Western Star 4700

The quality and value of a Western Star are now within reach, no matter what your application. That’s because the Western Star 4700 is designed to specifically meet the demanding needs of vocational applications and today’s tightening budgets. And it was designed with input from the hard working men and women who actually do the jobs. After all, no one knows what you need better than you do.

Western Star built its legacy on the pairing of bare-knuckle toughness and champagne-sipping elegance. These trucks are built tough and can be equipped to work in some of the roughest places on the planet.

Maximum Style and Comfort

The interior of the Western Star 4700 isn’t built just to look pretty. Driver comfort is still king, and no one knows that better than Western Star. The 4700 features an interior that will make working on the job site more comfortable than ever.

This includes:

  • A 72″ wide cab that is easy to get in and out of.
  • The nose features a sharp downward slope, so you get a full-on conventional look from all angles.
  • Updated materials that are easier to clean, as well as lighter headliner colors that make the 72-inch wide cab a little brighter.
  • Customizable, marine-grade switches and a hinged dash with exposed fasteners for easy serviceability and accessibility.
  • The all-new, redesigned door maximizes storage and improves fit, finish and durability, all while maintaining excellent entry and egress.

Power and Performance

When it comes to choosing an engine, close enough should never enter the conversation. The Western Star 4700 is ready to take on the most demanding of applications, and is available with the braodest range of powertrain options in a single truck model, including the Detroit Diesel DD13 engine and the Cummins ISC and ISL engines.

With Detroit’s addition of BlueTec emissions technology, they are ensuring their place in the market as a fuel economy leader. BlueTec is a complete emissions system that combines exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and the diesel particulate filter (DPF) to efficiently meet the EPA 2010 emissions standards. BlueTec treats the exhaust gases downstream of the engine instead of requiring complex changes under the hood.

A broad range of transmissions are also available for the 4700, including the latest Eaton Ultrashift PLUS transmission, and Allison 3000 and 4000-series transmissions.

Body Builder Friendly

The 4700 is built with a body builder friendly design. Body builder features are key in the vocational market – not only for ease of upfit, but for reducing body installation time. The truck’s body builder interface connectors and transmission control unit is located in-cab, providing greater protection against harsh and corrosive environments, ultimately preventing the possibility of wiring shorts and downtime.

The 4700 is also equipped with a bolt-in pass through plate in the cab floor that eliminates unnecessary drilling; and an industry-first, dedicated body builder wiring raceway. The raceway is an easily accessible routing path through the cab floor and provides plenty of room for body builders to route wiring more efficiently.

Designed With Serviceability in Mind

You work your trucks hard, so sometimes they need a little attention. Western Stars are designed for incredible durability and serviceability, with features like grade 8 frame fasteners and copper brass radiators, as well as in-cab fuse panels allowing you to make quick repairs. The 4700 was built to maximize profitability by keeping customers on the road longer.

Additional Features:

  • Standard stationary grille and optional hood engine access.
  • Rear engine PTO access panels.

Prioritizing on Operator Safety

The Western Star 4700 is equipped with a galvenized steel cab specially designed to withstand the rigors of vocational applications. The cab is precision welded, then dipped and protected with a proprietary 17-stage e-coat process for long-lasting corrosion resistance and superior paint finish. Extra gussets and reinforcements are bonded instead of riveted and precision welded for strength.
