Osh Kosh Truck | 5-Station Chassis Walk Around

In an earlier post back in December of last year, you started to look at the versatile H-Series Snow Chassis from Osh Kosh Trucks and some of the potential applications available for it.

At that time you were introduced to what we call the “5-Station Chassis Walk Around” and if you recall there were three (3) Key Features mentioned you will be able to take away: (1) Performance; (2) Safety, and; (3) Reliability. For those of you familiar with the Oshkosh H-Series Chassis, it was resdesigned in 2006 with airport customers being the key part by having great involvement during design. Step forward into 2013, and feast your eyes on what is available to you now.

It’s widely known that snow removal at airports is an extremely tough job and requires a variety of equipment. To keep a runway clean with plenty of friction it requires many different trucks working together as a team. These vehicles have a big job to do and must be inspected and maintained daily to complete the job safely and effectively. The station walk around is a proven way to present the Oshkosh H-Series Snow Chassis, especially for new prospects unfamiliar with Oshkosh products. Although there is nothing magical about the number of stations, experience has shown that prospects get a better feel for the truck if there is a consistent, sequential approach with a recognizable beginning, middle, and end.

When you leave the truck:

Make sure that the master battery switch has been turned off to prevent people starting the unit prior to your walk around or without a representative present. Obviously your prospect will most likely know how to turn on the truck, but this will reduce the risk of other people not associated with the presentation from starting the vehicle

Station 1: Cab

The cab is the foundation of the vehicle. Oshkosh designs all of its chassis and chassis options to meet the demands of the job. From the spacious cab and thoughtful layout of our controls, to the functional and ergonomic styling of our dash boards, we listen to our customers to continually develop and build products to meet their needs.

  • Aluminum and fiberglass cab construction
  • Panoramic, reverse-slope windshield
  • Windshield four-wiper system
  • Cab Enhancement Package (Two Doors, Cup Holders, Power Windows)
  • Command Zone™ Advanced Electronics
  • Cab mounted light bars.

Station 2: Front Chassis

Station #2 moves you from the cab to the front chassis and axle area of the vehicle. Now it’s time to demonstrate our commitment to performance, safety and reliability when it comes to the front body. The Oshkosh H-Series Chassis is an adaptable truck as determined by the customers needs. The combination of a sturdy, clean frame rail and large capacity axles allow for the installation of heavy duty airport snow removal attachments.

  • Heat-Treated, Carbon-Manganese Frame Rail
  • The Oshkosh frame rail is a single formed channel design which eliminates the corrosion found in sleeved designs
  • Dual System, Mechanical Service Air Brakes with 4S-4M Electronic Anti-Lock Brakes System
  • Parking and Emergency Air-Brake

Station 3: Oshkosh Drive Line

The legendary toughness and reliability of the Oshkosh snow removal truck is due in large part to the Oshkosh manufactured all-wheel-drive system components. Since the World War I era we here at Oshkosh has built our own axles, transfer cases and other parts of the all-wheel-drive system. Combined with the best commercially available Allison transmissions the Oshkosh all-wheel-drive system is ready for the most rugged applications on Earth.

  • Oshkosh Drive-Steering Axles Capacity Ratings. Oshkosh has the largest gross-axle-weight-rating available in a truck of this type.
  • The axle components are protected from the elements and bathed in lubricant, ensuring long life and reliability.
  • Tapered Trunnion Roller Bearings: These types of bearings are provided in the axle because by design they can bear more weight and are less prone to wear due to their larger bearing surface
  • Axles Feature Removable Wheel Ends.
  • The 55000 series transfer case is the heaviest-duty component of its type.  It is certified to be compatible with the high-horsepower, high-torque drive engines used by Oshkosh.
  • External, Upper Case Shaft-Driven Lubrication Pump

Station 4: Rear mounted drive engine and transmission

  • Powered Drive Engine Cover Raise and Lower
  • Engine Cover has a Positive Lock in the Raised Position
  • Battery Box located in an Accessible Area on the Frame Rail
  • Chassis Master Power Shut Off Located on the Outside of the Frame Rail Near Battery Box
  • Optional Chassis Jump-start Lugs Easily Accessible Outside the Frame Rails
  • Left Side Column has Plugs for Chassis Options such as Block Heaters, Battery Chargers
  • Cummins ISX 11.9 6 cylinder, four cycle
  • Inside/outside Intake Air Selection for Drive Engine
  • Engine Cooling System Designed by Oshkosh and Certified for the Cummins Engine
  • Integral Transmission Fluid Radiator
  • Thermostatically Controlled Suction-type Fan with Floating-type Fan Ring
