Rather than changing everything operators already know about the machine, Sakai focused the NEW SV544-1 on practical improvements to power, torque, fuel consumption, machine integration, and overall jobsite efficiency.

What’s New on the Sakai SV544-1?
The biggest update is under the hood.
The Sakai SV544-1 now uses a Cummins F3.8 Performance Series engine producing 148 horsepower, replacing the previous 130-horsepower configuration. That represents a 14% increase in peak horsepower while maintaining the same engine speed.
Torque receives an even larger improvement. Peak torque increases from 360 lb-ft to 443 lb-ft, a 23% gain, and the new engine reaches that peak torque 100 rpm sooner. That should give operators stronger response when the machine is working under load, climbing grades, or compacting demanding materials.
At the same time, Sakai says fuel efficiency improves by an estimated 8%, with an ECO mode available to help operators further manage fuel use. The updated engine package also delivers an 8.2% reduction in CO2 emissions through the Cummins Single Module aftertreatment system.
In practical terms, the upgrade is designed to deliver more usable power without automatically translating into higher fuel costs.

With 23% more peak torque and that torque arriving slightly earlier, the SV544-1 is designed to respond more effectively when the machine encounters resistance.

More power traditionally raises an obvious concern: does it mean burning more fuel?
Sakai engineered the SV544-1 specifically, to avoid that tradeoff. Despite its increase in horsepower and torque, the updated machine is expected to provide approximately 8% better fuel efficiency than the previous model.
For contractors running a compactor day after day, even relatively small reductions in hourly fuel consumption can become meaningful over hundreds or thousands of operating hours.
The addition of ECO mode gives operators another tool for managing consumption when full power is not required.
This combination of additional performance and better efficiency is one of the biggest reasons the NEW SV544-1 is more than a simple model-year update.
Sakai Kept the Controls Simple
Not every improvement needs another touchscreen.
One of the more interesting decisions Sakai made with the SV544-1 was to retain the straightforward analog controls familiar to existing operators. Sakai specifically notes that the design avoids reliance on complex touchscreens or multifunction panels that can introduce unnecessary complexity.
That philosophy fits with Sakai’s broader focus on building rollers that are reliable, easy to use, and durable.

Sakai’s soil compactor lineup can be configured with smooth drum, padfoot, or factory-installed shell setups, depending on the material and application. The SV544-1 can also be equipped with options such as an enclosed cab and hydraulic leveling blade.
That versatility matters because the correct drum configuration depends heavily on the soil being compacted.

Built in Georgia for the North American Market
The SV544 has an established history in Sakai’s U.S. manufacturing operation. In 2025, Sakai produced its 1,000th SV544 at the company’s Adairsville, Georgia facility. The updated SV544-1 continues that domestic assembly story.
Sakai now builds all of its North American soil rollers either in its Georgia facility or Japan, with the SV544-1 assembled domestically.
