Hyundai Construction Equipment Safety Features & Technology

Built for Safer, Smarter Jobsites

Safety is a priority on every construction site. Whether you’re operating an excavator, moving material with a wheel loader, or managing multiple machines across a busy jobsite, maintaining awareness of your surroundings is essential.

Hyundai Construction Equipment Safety Features combine advanced camera systems, intelligent object detection, radar technology, machine monitoring, and operator-focused design to help crews work more confidently.

From Hyundai’s established Hi MATE and All Around View Monitoring (AAVM) systems to the latest AI-assisted technology introduced on Next Generation HX excavators, Hyundai continues to develop solutions that help operators identify potential hazards and respond more effectively.

At Tracey Road Equipment, we’re proud to offer Hyundai Construction Equipment with technologies designed to support jobsite safety, productivity, and machine performance.

When it comes to machine diagnostics and up time,
more is more.

What Is Hyundai Hi MATE?

Hi MATE is Hyundai’s remote fleet management system, allowing equipment owners and fleet managers to monitor machine performance and operating conditions without being physically present at the jobsite.

Using connected machine data, Hi MATE provides valuable information that can help operators and managers make better maintenance and fleet management decisions.

Key capabilities include:

  • Machine location tracking: Monitor equipment locations and manage machines across multiple jobsites.

  • Operating hours and utilization: Track machine usage to improve scheduling and maintenance planning.

  • Machine health monitoring: Identify diagnostic alerts and potential maintenance concerns.

  • Fuel monitoring: Review fuel consumption and operating efficiency.

  • Maintenance notifications: Stay informed about service requirements and machine conditions.

  • Fleet reporting: Access operational information to support equipment management decisions.

How Hi MATE Supports Jobsite Safety

Although Hi MATE is primarily a fleet management and telematics system, it can contribute to a safer working environment.

Monitoring machine health and responding to diagnostic alerts can help equipment owners address developing problems before they lead to breakdowns or unexpected downtime.

Location tracking and operating data also improve visibility across the fleet, particularly for contractors managing equipment at multiple jobsites.

On Hyundai’s newest machines, connected equipment management continues to evolve through Hyundai Connect, which provides remote monitoring, maintenance notifications, and fleet management capabilities.

Hyundai AAVM: All Around View Monitoring

Improved Visibility Around the Machine

One of Hyundai’s most recognizable safety technologies is All Around View Monitoring (AAVM).

AAVM uses four cameras positioned around the machine to provide a 360-degree view of the surrounding work area on the operator’s in-cab display.

This additional visibility is especially valuable when operating in congested environments where other machines, workers, vehicles, and obstacles may be nearby.

Operators can view different camera angles to better understand what is happening around their equipment.

AAVM+: Enhanced Monitoring for Wheel Loaders

Hyundai’s AAVM+ (Advanced Around View Monitoring Plus) expands on its established camera monitoring technology.

The system combines surrounding camera views with rear radar and steering-angle information to provide more detailed awareness of potential hazards behind wheel loaders.

AAVM+ can display an estimated travel path while the machine is reversing, helping the operator understand where the equipment is likely to move.

The system can also focus detection warnings on objects within the anticipated travel path, reducing unnecessary alerts from objects outside that area.

For wheel loader operators working in busy yards, recycling facilities, aggregate operations, and other confined environments, this type of detection technology can help improve situational awareness.

Smart Around View Monitoring (SAVM)

Smart Around View Monitoring (SAVM) represents a major advancement over Hyundai’s traditional AAVM system.

While AAVM uses four cameras to provide surrounding visibility, SAVM uses six cameras positioned around the excavator, including three integrated into the counterweight.

The system uses artificial intelligence to detect people around the machine.

Key capabilities include:

  • Six-camera monitoring around the excavator

  • AI-assisted personnel detection

  • Visual alerts on the operator’s display

  • Audible warnings when people are detected

  • Improved awareness during machine movement and rotation

Unlike systems that primarily identify moving objects, Hyundai’s AI-assisted detection technology can recognize people even when they are stationary.

This is especially valuable on busy construction sites where workers may be standing near equipment rather than actively moving through the detection area.

SAVM helps operators identify potential hazards that might otherwise be difficult to see from the cab.

Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD)

Hyundai’s AAVM system can also include Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD).

IMOD identifies moving people or objects within the system’s detection area and provides alerts to the operator.

Hyundai lists detection ranges of approximately:

  • 16.5 feet (5 meters) for applicable excavators

  • 23 feet (7 meters) for applicable wheel loaders

These alerts provide another layer of awareness when maneuvering around active jobsites.

AAVM and IMOD are available on select Hyundai excavators and wheel loaders, depending on model and configuration.

Rear Detection System (RDS)

Hyundai also offers a Rear Detection System (RDS) on select equipment.

RDS uses wide-angle radar sensors positioned at the rear of the machine to detect nearby objects and provide warnings.

Unlike camera-only systems, radar detection can offer advantages when visibility is reduced by conditions such as:

  • Rain

  • Snow

  • Fog

  • Dust

  • Low-light operation

When an object is detected, the system can display distance information and provide an audible warning.

Rear detection technology is particularly valuable for wheel loaders and wheeled excavators, which frequently maneuver around trucks, stockpiles, workers, and other equipment.

Combined Benefits: Hi-Mate + AAVM

Bringing both systems together offers a synergy that elevates fleet performance and safety:

  • Remote oversight + in-cab safety — even when not on site, you get alerts and condition reports from Hi-Mate; on the machine, AAVM helps prevent accidents and blind-spot incidents.

  • Proactive maintenance & uptime — Hi-Mate’s diagnostics help reduce unplanned downtime; AAVM reduces costly equipment damage.

  • Better utilization — identify underutilized machines, monitor operator behavior, and optimize assignment.

  • Safety-first operations — detect pedestrians or hazards via AAVM while fleet managers monitor machine health via Hi-Mate.

  • Lower total cost of ownership — minimized downtime, lower repair counts, and safer operations all contribute to better ROI.

Hi-Mate is Hyundai’s cloud-based telematics system that provides fleet owners and managers with real-time data on machine location, operation, fuel usage, and maintenance needs.

AAVM stands for All Around View Monitoring, Hyundai’s 360-degree camera system that enhances visibility and safety for operators.

Yes, Hi-Mate is available via both desktop and mobile app, allowing operators and managers to stay connected anywhere.

IMOD (Intelligent Moving Object Detection) alerts the operator if an object or person enters a defined proximity zone around the equipment, improving jobsite safety.

Most modern Hyundai excavators, wheel loaders, and heavy equipment models include Hi-Mate and AAVM as standard or optional features. Check with your local Tracey Road Equipment representative for model availability.
