Liebherr Compact Excavators Get a Generation 8 Upgrade
The new Generation 8 compact family consists of three models:
The R 915 Compact replaces the previous R 914 Compact G6, while the R 917 Compact is an entirely new model positioned between the R 915 and R 920. The R 920 Compact has also received the Generation 8 treatment.
Above these machines, the larger R 926 Compact G6 and R 936 Compact G6 continue to provide additional capacity within Liebherr’s compact crawler excavator range.

Powered by a 122-horsepower engine, the R 915 Compact is designed for contractors who need a capable crawler excavator but frequently work in areas where space is limited.

R 917 Compact G8: An All-New Addition
The R 917 Compact G8 may be the most interesting addition because it isn’t simply replacing an existing machine. It’s an entirely new model.
With 136 horsepower and an operating weight of approximately 17.5 metric tons, or about 38,600 pounds, the R 917 fills the space between the R 915 and R 920.
One of its defining characteristics is its compact rear swing radius of approximately 5 feet 7 inches. That reduced tail swing can make a significant difference when working alongside traffic, buildings, utility lines, barriers, other equipment, or workers on congested jobsites.
For contractors who need more capability than the R 915 provides but don’t necessarily need to move up to the R 920, the new R 917 creates an important middle option.
R 920 Compact G8: More Performance in a Compact Package
At the top of the new Generation 8 trio is the R 920 Compact G8.
With 150 horsepower, the R 920 provides the greatest engine output of the three new machines while retaining the compact design philosophy of the lineup.
