Demolition doesn’t happen entirely at the top of a building. After high-reach work is complete, contractors still need to process material, work closer to ground level, remove foundations, and complete other heavy demolition tasks.

This flexibility means contractors don’t necessarily need one machine for high-reach demolition and another for heavier work closer to the ground. The SK650DLC-11 can be reconfigured as the project progresses.
Nearly 93 Feet of High-Reach Capability
The headline number for the SK650DLC-11 is its 92-foot-7-inch maximum pin height.
With the 3-Piece High-Reach Attachment and Insert Boom installed, the machine can reach upper portions of taller structures while carrying an attachment weighing up to 8,160 pounds.
For demolition contractors, reach and tool capacity have to work together. A machine that reaches high but can’t carry the attachment required for the material being demolished has limited usefulness.
The SK650DLC-11 is designed to balance the two.
When greater tool weight becomes the priority, contractors can move to a Separate Boom configuration and handle attachments weighing as much as 13,450 pounds.

A Hydraulic Variable Undercarriage
Stability is critical when operating a demolition attachment dozens of feet above the ground. Transportation is equally important when an approximately 80-ton machine needs to move between jobsites.
The SK650DLC-11 addresses both with a hydraulic variable undercarriage developed for demolition applications.
For transportation, the undercarriage can retract to approximately 10 feet 6 inches wide. At the jobsite, it expands to approximately 13 feet 9 inches, providing a wider working footprint for increased stability.
The undercarriage can extend and retract while the machine remains on the ground, without requiring hydraulic hose reconnection or bolting during the process.
This is a good example of how purpose-built demolition equipment differs from a standard excavator. Kobelco isn’t only thinking about how the machine performs while tearing down a structure. It is also considering how contractors get the machine to the job and prepare it for work.
Easier Assembly and Attachment Changes
A high-reach demolition excavator requires significant components to be assembled and removed for transportation. Reducing the time and complexity involved can help contractors get the machine working sooner.
Kobelco’s attachment joint system is designed to simplify connection between the main boom and front attachment. The upper pin can first be hooked into position before the lower connection is secured hydraulically.
A one-touch, bayonet-style connection mechanism also connects the main boom and front attachments without tools.
The 3-Piece High-Reach Attachment uses a cross-cylinder structure that reduces transport height and improves access to tie-down points. Attachment stands serve double duty as storage stands and work platforms, giving operators a better position for checking the upper pin and connection hook during assembly and removal.
Together, these features are designed to make a very large, specialized excavator more practical to move and reconfigure.
Removable Counterweight Simplifies Transport
Transporting a machine this size involves more than retracting the undercarriage.
The SK650DLC-11 also features a removable counterweight. With the counterweight removed, machine weight can be reduced to approximately 109,000 pounds for transportation.
An optional hydraulic counterweight removal system allows the counterweight to be installed or removed by one person. Depending on the jobsite and transportation setup, that can help reduce labor requirements and the need for additional lifting support.

A Cab Designed Specifically for Demolition
Working at height creates a very different visibility challenge than conventional excavation.
The SK650DLC-11 uses a demolition-specific cab capable of tilting up to 30 degrees, helping the operator maintain a better view of the attachment and structure during high-reach work.
The cab also incorporates several demolition-focused protection and visibility features, including P5A front and top glass, Level II protection, and a falling-object deflector.
Inside, a 10-inch color monitor provides machine information along with views from left, right, and rear cameras. A jog dial simplifies navigation through the machine menus.
Operator comfort features include an air-suspension heated seat, air conditioning, Bluetooth hands-free radio, charging port, and a tilting left console designed to make entering and exiting the cab easier.
Kobelco also includes an emergency manual cab-lowering valve, an important consideration when the cab is operating in its tilted position.
Technology Designed Around Demolition Safety
High-reach demolition requires operators to constantly understand the position of the machine, attachment, and work tool.
The SK650DLC-11 includes a cab interference prevention system that alerts the operator and prevents the work tool from contacting the cab. Multiple tools can be programmed and stored within the system.
A separate stability warning system monitors both longitudinal and horizontal machine stability. It displays attachment posture, working height, and working radius, while providing continuous audible warnings if machine stability becomes compromised.
These systems don’t replace proper training, job planning, or safe operating procedures, but they give the operator additional information while managing a large attachment at significant working heights.
